San Giorgio Ionico has a population of 15.613 inhabitants (Sangiorgesi) and a surface of 23,49 square kilometers thus showing a population density of 664,7 inhabitants per square kilometer. It rises 75 metres above the sea level.

Population: The municipality of San Giorgio Ionico had a popolation of 16.081 inhabitants accordingly to the results of the national census made in 1991. After the national census made in 2001 the population was 15.613 inhabitants, thus showing during the years 1991 - 2001 a percentual variation of -3% inhabitants.

The inhabitants are distributed in 5.441 families with an average of 2,87 people per family.

The place: The territory of the municipality lies between 6 and 135 metres above sea level.

The altimetric spawn is thus of 129 metres.

Work and workers:There are 64 industrial firms employing 673 people that are the 26,65% of the total of the workers. There are 262 service firms employing 691 people that are the 27,37% of the total of the workers. There are also 219 firms employing 417 people that are the 16,51% of the total of the workers. There are also 32 administrative offices emplying 744 workers that are the 29,47% of the total of the workers.

There is a total of 2.525 workers, that are the 16,17% of the inhabitants of the municipality.
